Why it is so that after so much of dental education patients still favors the removal of a severely decayed tooth? Answer is APPREHENSION towards the root canal treatment. Its difficult for a Dentist to convince the patient when he has already prepared his mind for the removal of the tooth. Now step in the patients position, what he might be thinking:

What is root canal treatment?

How the tooth can be saved through RCT?
A severly dameged tooth whose pulp and nerves are infected can be saved through the root canal treatment, in which the damaged portion including the pulp and nerves are completely removed and the tooth is cleaned and filled upto the apex of the tooth root.

What is done in root canal treatment?
The infected nerve tissue and the pulp is removed and the root canal is disinfected with medicine irrigation after which the root canal is filled with special materials. Thus that tooth will not get any sensation and pain in future.

Is the treatment painful?
The RCT is performed under the local anathesia so practically its completely painfree. We make your gums numb with local anesthesia spray or gel, so that you don't even feel the prick of the needle while giving the local anesthesia injection.

How much time RCT takes?
We have two options for you regarding the time required in the rct, Single visit - which can be done in only one visit and requires about 2 hrs time at dental office.
Traditional- done in 3-4 visits, each visit after 2 days, and about 1/2 to 1 hr each at dental office.

Is the tooth functionalyy worth and useful after RCT?
Yes, definitely the tooth can be used for biting and chewing food as good as normal tooth. But we recomentd to put a capping either a metal, ceramic to reinforce the tooth structure.

Why the capping is needed after RCT?
As you know that the pulp and the nerve tisses are removed form the tooth, so practically the tooth is dead it has no supply from the body. Eventually the tooth structure goes brittle and will star breaking on biting pressure, so its necesary to reinforce tooth structure with capping.
